I dive split because when dive in a Texas springs I saw someone swim by me with split fins on. While he was six feet off the bottom with each stroke he was moving sand off the bottom. To me it meant he was moving a lot of water.

I have only tried the split fins one time and hated them. I was in some current and felt like I was going no where or like in low gear on a bike. Could be because I am used to a stiffer blade fin? IDK

I have had both types. I have blade fins now, more or less a travel fin , but I think they have plenty of thrust and are adequate in current. They are lighter, shorter and easier to maneuver on boats. I seem to have less muscle cramps with the blade fins.

I switched to split fins after a couple of knee surgeries and like them a lot.  I had to learn to kick a little different (especially on surface) more of a small shuffle kick and can really move in the water.   Much less stress on the knee too.

I prefer paddle fins I guess because thats what I always use. I may have to try some splits. a lot of people use them. I use Scubapro Wake fins and love them.

Blade fins. I feel comfortable with them in all situations. Maybe because that us what I am use to. I tried my friends split fins, didn't like them for me.

I'm a blade fin diver.  My first fins were blades (or paddles) and so are my current fins, so that's what I'm used to. My dive buddy was trying to convince me to get split fins like his, but while they look like they might be a bit easier to kick with, they were a little heavier, and I'm skeptical that they'd have enough power in a stiff current.

Split fins for warm water, blade for cooler water
