Have you ever had to give your octo to someone who was out of air?

Question

While on a five trip in the keys. I had someone from another boat come to me out of air.

Yes, in a runaway diver decent. I caught her at depth and arrested our decent. She was low on air at 200 ft. I gave her my primary and i used my Air2 on my inflater to make our assent to a drop tank witb a regulator on it to do our safety stop and get our computers clear for exiting the water.

It was headed south quickly. Here inflator connection to her BC waz nit tight and she panicked instead od dropping some lead. The active D/M was at tge surface, i was on vacation but my training kicked in and said go get her.  Made for a couple of days off of diving to relax and talk with her and her husband about dive training and gear checks prior to entry.

No, I always have the same dive buddy and we make a dive plan and follow it.

Nope, hope to not but always dive prepared and alert. Since I use an Air2 I know I must give up my primary and switch to Air2 - no biggie just have to control the situation and I hand it to them before they grab for it.

Yup and that is the protocol if you dive and Air2 or like type as it is too short to reach the buddy. I  find having a streamlined rig and one less hose far outweighs the slim chance I would have to encounter a buddy out of air situation.  My wife and I both dive the same set up also.

Yes, I had an assigned buddy in adive club flash me the 500psi sign at 90 feet. I switched my regulator for my air source regulator (making it my new primary) and held the now open original primary out to him and then pointed towards the surface. We made our first safety stop and on the way to the second he took the available primary and we ascended to our second safety stop, completed it and then surfaced. 400psi remaining on my tank, we orally inflated our BCs and headed to shore.
