I met him in Philadelphia at an underwater photography show. Philippe was supposed to have been there, but he could not make it, so Jacques filled in for him. What a thrill for me to meet my idol.

My memory is still strong and profound. I worked aboard Calypso. Started as a truck driver of all things - on Beaver (Canada) expedition. Then worked my way up the ladder, finishing as an underwater photographer. I write about it in my book Frogmen.

Captain Cousteau was the real deal. Hard working, sincere, good sense of humor. I am working on a new book about the business. It includes much more about Cousteau.

I was living in Michigan on the seaway north of Detroit. The Calypso came by headed for Lake Huron.
