What can one single person do to help reefs 'survive?'

Don't touch it, drag things along it, kick it, etc. ;-)

but also practice good conservation skills such as recycling, and using green energy when possible to reduce the plastic in the ocean and help with *gasp* that climate thing people talk about sometimes that may or may not be true and may have already killed the great barrier reef...

Climate change. No denying it. Get involved with a local and/or national/international group. Individually, the other answer is good. I hate seeing people stand on coral and such. No! And something many people are not aware of, sunscreen is also bad for reefs. Consider a safe sunscreen.

Pick up your trash.  Pick up others trash, especially plastic.  Try and limit your use of plastics.  Practice good conservation when fishing liking using circle hooks and rigs designed with keeping the fish alive.

Respect the ocean.  Don't touch the reef.  Use "reef safe" sunscreen.  Recycle.  Pick up your trash at the beach.  Do your part and encourage others to do their part.

Things as simple as not using straws in a restaurant, or filtering your own water and putting it in a reusable container. They are small, but if we all just practiced a few, they would make a tremendous impact.
