I have gotten very very close, while under and ran out of air during the deco stop, I was very lucky that my buddy was there, we dive all the time and I did some hand signals and he knew what was wrong. Long story short, I had a leak in my octopus secondary air and me and him just shared air. It was a very scary event, but we handled it and got out and fixed the problem.

One time, I was heading back to the boat low on air so I stayed at 10ft to avoid the kelp and headed on compass setting to the boat. As soon as I was right under the boat I felt my reg drag. prob had a couple more left. I chuckled and surfaced at the swim step.
