Have you inspired anyone to get certified because of your stories about it?

Yes, I got my now dive buddy to get certified, I always told him stories and he is a Science major just like me and enjoys the outdoors. He now loves it and me and him go when we can, and always have a great time and share what we both saw underwater. How about yourself?

Yes, I have been teaching for over 25 years. My three children, 2 nephews and 1 niece, friends. I also work with wounded warriors, and we have to adapt to one leg-one arm etc. I am so proud of these guys, and humbled at their hard work. I have inspired many people to try scuba, but I am most proud of the inspiration I can instill in the pool, quarry,  springs, and the ocean. Anyone I inspire, inspires me to give it my best.

My two sons couldn't wait to be certified. They waited till they were 12 and took several primary courses, they went on to be world class divers. I remember at first they had to swim in from and slightly above me for my peace of mind but it wasn't long before they turned that around on me.

Over the last few years I've encouraged my frien Mitch to learn to dive. He now has advanced open water certainly and we do a week at St John, USVI buddy diving.

Not yet, but I'm close! I've been talking with a fellow alumnus from my university, and she said she was inspired by my stories & photos during our first conversation about diving. She took a resort course and did a guided dive under a divemaster's supervision but was a little intimidated by it. She said she wasn't sure if she'd be comfortable enough to do it again, but after another convo with me and seeing photos from my most recent trip, she said she might look into an actual full-certification course. I think the resort's course might have been a bit rushed, and it's a shame, because she's definitely got a love for marine life and the ocean. She was especially fascinated by my photos of sharks, didn't seem scared at all. I may need to do a little more encouraging, but I think she could be a good diver.

I've also given certification course info to one of the execs I work for. He and his wife also took a resort course in Thailand, and while I think they liked it, I don't think he's so into the sport that he'd go for full certification.

That is great!! I dive with a group of 4. Our stories and pictures have encouraged 4 of our friends to get certified. Happy diving!

Good question. Well, I hope so. I give talks about my time with Cousteau. I started as a truck driver and deck hand and worked my way up to underwater lighting and photography. I speak to SCUBA clubs and they are already certified. But I speak to many other audiences and I'm sure I inspire many there. - One guy said he wanted to get certified BUT he didn't know how to swim. I suggested he had to get comfortable in the water in order to be a good diver (and get certified). Funny.

Yes several, I am a Divemaster and try to talk everyone into taking a Discover Scuba class. I enjoy teaching them. When people take their first breath underwater, most of them are hooked.

Yes, my girl friend when she was 60. That was 14 years ago and she is still an avid diver. I have a few buddies who I just can’t break their fear.
