My first gear purchase was influened by the gear we used in my Open Water class. I figured I should dive with the same equipment I learned with. Since then I have made several different gear choices bast on what I have tried and liked. Price is also an influence.

Dive shop, friends were my biggest influencers on gear purchases. Also, I have checked reviews and brand.

Local dive shop and friends. We bought our first set of gear from our local dive shop knowing they could service it and instruct us on how to use it.

when i finally moved to FL, i knew i would be diving more, so i finally made my first BCD/Regulator/dive computer purchase. I found a deal online - not the safest move, because i didn't get to try the gear first, but it worked out. It was all AquaLung products so I felt they would probably be decent enough - still use them to this day.

I wanted a regulator that would exhaust out the side and at that time I knew nothing about the jet streams or Cyclones.  So I went with an Oceanic and for an octo to I wanted something small so I selected a Micra. A friend was cave diving using a micro and I as him why. He said, "it had very little dead air space".  How true, nice little regulator.
