What got you interested in the hobby? I always had a love for water and wanted to see what was down there.

My husband and I got tired of just sitting by a pool/ocean and drinking and reading.

I served in the Army during the Viet Nam era as a Paratrooper in the Infantry. When I got back to the states I relocated to Florida. Although it was not called “PTSD” back then ....I was in pretty bad shape and needed something to replace the near insane lifestyle I had lived in the Army. There was a dive shop around the corner from my apartment. I walked in one afternoon and introduced myself to the owner. He in turn began telling me all about SCUBA. I was taken immediately by his description and within a couple weeks I took the Open Water course, which back then was the equivalent of Basic and Advanced Open Water.

Long story short, I ended up going back to college and became a Paramedic and Radiology Tech. During that period of time I went onto be a SCUBA Divemaster (PADI). I wrote to the Cousteau’s and asked them if they accepted “outsiders” on expeditions. At first I got no answer but finally one day the letter came and I was invited to dive with the Cousteau Team. It was a dream come true. I was invited back a second time the following summer.

I concluded my “active” diving in 2008 with over 20 years as a Divemaster and well over 1000 logged dives ....

I started diving so that I could swim with Whales. I wanted to experience the relative size difference between us.

When snorkeling was a tease and I wanted to see more of what the ocean had to offer!

For your entire life you hold your breath underwater;  I wanted to see what it felt like to challenge that all while seeing the under water world.

To spend time with my daughter when she was 11....25 years and hundreds of dives later, some things just don't change.

The reason I started to dive is Alzheimer's disease runs in my family & I have witnessed what it can take away from a person so I just wanted to see everything this world has to offer. Just wanted to see all the beauty that the ocean holds now just in case I can't later. Like they say life is to short.

My wife made me... Not really but sort of.  She signed me up for a discovery scuba course because she was a diver.  I dove in Hawaii and saw sea girls bigger than me and was hooked.  Heading out for a month in 3 weeks to get my divemaster cert now.

1966, I needed to collect specimens as a grad student. Dove in Biscayne Bay while at the “U”.
