What are the most dangerous sea animals to divers?

I have heard from multiple diver, to be very careful around big groupers, I have heard of them sucking the mask right off your face if you get to close to them, also be careful with Eels, most of the dangers come from people feeding them.

It could be that the most dangerous sea creatures to divers are those you cannot see.  Be aware of the venomous and dangerous sea creatures in the waters where you dive.  Fish like stonefish and scorpionfish are master of disguise.  They camouflage themselves perfectly.  You are not prey to them.  But a misplaced hand will not be tolerated.  This danger is especially present at night when you have a very narrow field of view.

Blue ringed octopus, certain sea snails and jellyfish can easily kill a human.  There is no known anti venom for certain sea snakes.  Time of day influences the dangers.  Prowling bull sharks around dusk when they're most active can pose the greatest risk.   Not knowing your environment and what inhabits the area you will be diving in can make seemingly innocuous creatures potentially dangerous, ignorance is probably the biggest contributor to risk and injury.

My guess is that most injuries to divers come from cuts and scrapes on coral versus something prowling the water column.

Irukandji jellyfish. I was on a liveaboard out of Cairns and we had to do an emergency evacuation for one of the divemasters that was stung by one. She was safe in the end, but what a painful and scary situation. They say that you can have a feeling of impending doom.
