I think it would be awesome to dive in the Kelp, you would see a bunch of wildlife, but the other side of me would be a little scared.

Your right diving kelp is different. It's smart to find someone who knows how to five kelp. Ive dove kelp so thick it was like making a night dive. It's very easy to get wrap up in kelp and the dive can go down hill fast. Dive safe and have fun.

Being a CA diver its how I started and I think it is some of the best diving on the planet. Pictures don't do it justice, it is a must experience way of diving.  I have never done the kelp crawl because you learn how to dive in kelp. If you surface and the boat is a ways out and there is thick kelp -drop down 10ft and swim via compass setting right thru the kelp and to the boat. Even low on air at 10ft it is a better approach. I guess it comes with comfort and experience. I have seen many divers get in trouble and kelp+ panic= trouble. Keep calm be aware dive streamlined avoid really tight openings and always carry a knife.

We dove in Monterey Bay for a couple of years and then decide it was time to get a drysuit.  It's cold water but we'll worth the experience. Training to dive the kelp is important it is different. The seals are fun to watch.

My wife and I dove Catalina and La Jolla earlier this year.  We also dive Washington state.  Love kelp diving especially in sunny weather.  Catalina kelp forest was amazing.  The life that exists in and around the kelp can be incredible.  Some of Catalina's kelp reached 70 or so feet. Did a night dive there as well.  Unbelievable.   Just be aware of surroundings and possible tanglement  issues.  Dive with a knife or diving shears.

We went to Catalina around Christmas and there wasn't a lot of people around. Had great dives off a boat and the shore. Fun diving,, that I do miss about California.

That's cool. We went in May and it wasn't too bad either.  It was just the dive master and I on the night dive, in the entire park area.  Love it down there
