What are some tricks to proper buoyancy control?

There are no tricks, just Breath control and lots of practice. The first and foremost factor is to make sure you are properly weighted to begin with. With no air in the BCD you should float at eye level while holding a breath. Relax and breath normally dont take really deep breaths and dont exhale all of it before the next breath. Use your lungs to help control your buoyancy.
