Bit late on this answer but currently (July 18) Cape point is closed by NPS due to nesting bird fledglings. I believe it is for Terns and Oyster catchers. Should be back open soon. During peak fishing season it stays pretty crowded. When Shelly Island was there, it was extra crowded due to non-fishing tourists as well.
