What is the scariest thing that has happened to you or someone you know while diving?

Had an incident during My owd course. I failed to get My mask back on. And keept nocking My regulator out of My own mouth. Trying to get the mask back on again. The paniked and went for the surfice. My instruktor keept holding on to me.... Got the mask back on and the regulater back in My mouth with one hand. While hanging in the middle of nothing. Dont rember how i did it. But took me some time to get read for dive nr 2

Glad it worked out. During our training in Monterey bay when my wife took of her mask and the cold water hit her face she bolted to the surface. That was probably 300 dives ago. Now she dive ever other weekend at a aquarium.

It is amazing. As a Padi instructor I see this all the time. I warn students this is the worst skill they will go through. It is also the most used. The best thing a new diver can do is get used to having the mask off.

Why.... And why often. Will the mask Come All offentlige during a dive???

Left Jules Undersea habitat with an empty tank and tank valve got caught on an anchor line. Almost bought the farm in a mere 30' of water.

Glad it all worked out. The problem is people think this only going to happen in deep water. Not the case for sure.
