We were on a dive boat out of Santa Barbara. When this lady was about to jump in when a crew member grab her and ask her where was her SPG. She said she didn't have one. He pulled her aside and found one and attached it. She wasn't gone that long when she ran out of air. Too funny NOT just an accident looking for a place to happen.

This was on a truth aquatic boat twenty years ago always a good crew and great diving. That is one thing about California.

I was diving with a group during a boat dive.  There was a newer diver and she did not look ready to dive.  I had never met this diver. The dive master had to remind her to gear up three or so times.  This was about a 70 foot wreck dive.  I didn't feel she was ready but the dive master insisted on giving her a try.  I decided to stay with them because I was not confident in her doing this dive.

I entered first followed by her.  I told her to wait with me on the surface until the dive master went in and she immediately dumped air from her BCD'.  I ended diving down and bringing her back up before she got too deep. She ended going down again with the dive master next to her and landed on her back, on top of the wreck. She  just laid there. The dive master and  I had to get her under control just to bring her up and end her day diving.

As much as the diver was not ready to dive and probably was not meant for diving at all, I blamed the dive master for not recognizing this beforehand.  Somewhat scary overall.

Damn that is scary glad there was a good out come. A lot of the time if you watch other divers suit up and prep for the dive you can see a problem developing.

That is so true.  I feel I should have been more assertive with the dive master but she was with him for that dive.  Good question by the way

I saw someone wearing about 10 lbs of weight put her snorkle in her mouth instead of her second stage and dump her air. She did it so fast I couldnt stop her. glad I saw it. I brought her to the surface and aired her up.

We were in Florida when getting on a dive boat I saw this guy had a NITROX tank. I ask him what his MOD was he said, "he didn't know it was his brothers tank".
