The keys are: never wear cotton and always have a dry bag with extra clothes. You can survive getting wet in the cold as long as you get dry as soon as possible.

I never wear cotton very much when it’s colder. What do y’all wear on your feet?

I wear Carhartt fleece lined pants and a nice warm jacket with some waterproofing, I also have water resistant gloves and I always have hand warmers in my pockets.

I where Fourth Element dive gear.  It's very tough; comes in separate bottoms and tops; and is machine washable.  I also where 5 mil scuba boots.

I like to wear scuba boots whenever I plan to regularly exit the kayak on potentially hazardous (shells, rocks, sticks, etc.) ground.
