Interesting question. I did a lot of intense deep diving as a young man (worked for Cousteau aboard Calypso). I never did any ear care per se, nor did anybody else that I knew of. It was all about in-water equalizing for me, as we  almost always dove deep, e.g./ 150'+ (deepest for me 230' on air!). --- I suppose that if one had an issue with wax buildup perhaps a Q-tip with rubbing alcohol, very gently (not too deep in the ear) might loosen wax but I'm not a Doc. --- One recreational dive featured our land sound man diving. Broke both his eardrums. He was on a flight home the next day!

I usually use Debrox Drops Earwax Removal Aid drops instead of Q- tips which can cause build up. I use these during diving season and they have always worked great.

We make our own mixture of alcohol and hydrogen peroxide. It always worked for us.

50% alcohol and 50% white vinegar works well for me.  I'm fortunate to not have a huge problem with wax.
