If tiny airlines have strict baggage allowances can you always pay extra, or is it simpler to rent?

All depends really where you go, I would do some research on the dive shop and see the reviews of what people say. I love my own gear, but I have dove in some places that maintain the equipment just as well.

I would mostly agree with cquade7. If it is too cumbersome, you may want to rent, but do your homework. Even with that said, I am always going to bring my octopus

I always take and use my own gear and add the baggage fees into the cost of the trip. We are taking our gear for 4 divers to Hawaii and pack light. The rental fees vs baggage fees is a big difference if planning multiple dives.

Pay extra. And use your own gear that you know andxtrust. Stay safe!

Never had a problem as we pack light and I only dive with my own equipment.
