We have always used DAN. They are a very good origination and truly have divers at heart with research and support.

Absolutely! I have carried dive accident insurance through Divers Alert Network ever since I was enrolled in my open water class. They have very reasonable plans (starting at US$40 per year in the US) and great coverage specific to diving. They also have a 24-hour hotline that is staffed with physicians specializing in dive medicine that you can access any time you have a question about a potential dive injury.

Your primary medical insurance may exclude scuba diving as a hazardous recreational activity and it may not provide coverage when you are traveling out of the country. If it does provide coverage, it may pay only a minimal amount for chamber treatments and there are often large out-of-pocket payments for deductibles and co-pays.

Covered medical dive accident charges include:
* Hyperbaric Chamber Treatment
* Physician's Charges for Hyperbaric Chamber Treatment medical care and surgical operations
* Ambulance transportation by ground, air or marine ambulance services to the nearest Hospital or Hyperbaric Chamber where prescribed care or treatment can be given
* Hospital charges
* Extra transportation costs
* Extra accommodation costs
* Loss of equipment as a result of a diving acciden

Good insurance and some dive operators would like you to have it.
