Where do you live? I live in Louisiana and I find that Cozumel is a cost effective trip for me. 2 tank boat dives are around $85. Getting there is the main cost. I use Blue Dream Cozumel dive operation. Great people and they are located at the Playa Azul Golf and Scuba resort. Its a small, all inclusive resort. Great food and very reasonable. Search them both online. If you dont want to leave the states then Rainbow Reef dive shop in Key Largo is the best operation I have used in the states. The diving is almost the same as Cozumel. Search them too, they have packages that include your hotel stay also.

I love diving in the keys, I also really enjoy doing some of the springs in FLA, I do not know where you live, but I have done some Keys diving and on the way back to ATL where I live, I will dive some of the springs, I have always enjoyed that since airfare tickets keep going up and up.

Can you get to Belize's Barrier Reef. Fly to Belize City and get over to Ambergris Caye. I can give you a good guide to take you to reef. Affordable.

We were going to try Mahaual, which is a couple hours north by car. Is it worth it.?

Just got back from Cobalt Coast where the dive operation has been taken over by Reef divers. They also operate on Little Cayman and Cayman Broc. I've dove on all three and the diving is just great. Watch for deal's and you'll enjoy you be glad that they give you such a great time.

Grand Cayman is a great dive trip.  Caymans offer a little bit of everything.  Great shore dives, massive walls, wrecks, great reef structure.  If you want to do it cost effective you can just shore dive and kick out to the outer wall, usually 150 yard surface swim.  Most operators charge 15/tank some are a little less.  Boat dives run between $100-$115 for 2 tank dive.  You can also look into the Cayman Aggressor liveaboard.

The Keys used to be good, but I’ve been diving there for forty years and I would never go there again. Belize is a good place and easy to get to rom Florida or Texas. Diving is great and the people are wonderful. If you live in Florida the Abacos are a good choice.
