I seen this offered under service menu, I figure it is a quick check if the reg is working as it should in place of an overhaul? is this a good idea before a trip? or waste of money?

The new regulators have harder seats and do not require over hauling yearly. But there is nothing wrong with having the dive shop check it over yearly. Most will be glad to do it while you wait and maybe you'll find something to buy while your looking. That's why some dive shops have their full station in the middle of the store so you can shop while waiting for a fill.

For that price you said I would definitely just spend the money for piece of mind. At least I would, its a great price to breathe a little easier!
