Is there value in having both an alternate air source and a safe second as part of your rig?

Do you mean like a pony bottle? We use pony bottles when we clean the aquarium tanks as our second air source in case the main air runs out somehow. So far, never had to use it in an emergency, but better safe than sorry. Is it something i would have when I do recreational diving? It can't hurt to have it, but it isn't really necessary as long as you plan your dive and dive your plan. ;)
