Same with me. Start with 3000, turn at 1500, start ascent with 750, try to get back on the boat with around 500

The dive masters say 1000 psi. I think everyone pushes that, depending on depth.

As a conservative recreational dive at 1500 PSI I'm already turning the dive around. Using an upward slope I begin my ascent when my PSI is 750, a safety stop and board the boat with at least 500 PSI.

Depends on the dive. If it is a drift dive, there is no turning back, so I try to make sure I begin my ascent at around 800-750 or more depending on depth

for a dive that would require going back to a boat or shore, i usually turn back at around 1500 PSI and try to make sure that i'll be able to surface with 500 PSI left in the tank, so typically start ascending between 800 and 750 PSI depending on the depth and estimated safety stop time.

If it's not far I'll head back at 900 lbs, the safety stop will burn some but I'll reach the boat with plenty.

As a cave diver I use the rule of thirds. Even diving open water my last thirds are around the anchor. There is always something in this area that ever one swims bye. We don't swim fast, there is way to many small things that people swim bye and never see.

I turn the dive when the first person in the group reaches half tank 1500. If that person is an air hog the others in the group, especially women, are not happy. Oh well, safety first.

Most dive boats I’ve been on ask to turn at 1500 and be on the boat with 500 left.
