I use a hose connected one for two main reasons. First the cost, it is still a wide range between the hose and wireless types. Second is the peace of mind and assurance. It is hard for a direct connection to be off. I have seen guys with the wireless transmitters have issues time to time. Personally, I use an Air II so I already eliminated a hose on my reg unit, I also have a quick disconnect on my computer so it is very easy. It comes down to preference and budget. Dont just go with what everyone uses, go with what works for you.

I use a hose mounted one and that is what I feel comfortable with. I don't trust the hose less.

I use a hosed computer, Oeanic pro plus 2, I trust it knowing its directly connected to my air supply.

I use an SPG pressure guage directly connected to the tank. Through the years, I have seen lots of people have issues with the hoseless  transmitters after spending lots of money on them. I don't want to have issues with that and I think the chance of something going wrong is somewhat less with a gauge directly connected to the tank.

I'm going to be buying a reg setup soon and plan to purchase the wireless transmitter to the wrist computer I already own, but I'll still get a hosed SPG as a backup. If the wireless transmitter malfunctions, I might have to abort that dive, but I could switch it out with my hosed SPG between dives.

One of the main reasons I want to go wireless on my computer is because I'd like to eliminate one hose at least, and I'm not sold on the Air2 as an alternate second stage.

Why not the Air 2 ? I have been using one for 15 yrs and love it. I would never go back  to an octo. Just curious what is keeping you away?

Two reasons for my wariness about the Air2:
First, while my regular buddy would never grab my reg out of my mouth in an out-of-air situation (not to mention, he's a good diver and wouldn't let himself get so low on air in the first place!), I'm not always going to be diving with him, and I worry that a less experienced diver may panic, not seeing an octo where it should be.
Second, if my low-pressure inflator malfunctions, I can disconnect it and be fine for the rest of the dive, inflating my BC orally at the surface. But if I have an Air2 and this malfunction happens, not only have I lost my BC inflator, I've lost my octo as well.
