I have been lucky enough to be in the water with Humpback whales, sharks of different sorts and many other beautiful and amazing creatures but my favorite would have to be the bottlenose dolphins I have gotten to know over many years.  Where I teach - University of the Virgin Islands I have been so lucky to get to know a female dolphin over the last 17 years. It is always her choice to come see me - unlike many of the other great encounters - and her choice to interact.  She has brought her babies along at different times for an introduction even. Once her and her baby came when I have my 7 year old daughter there and we all swam and dove for over 90 minutes. So yes since it was her choice and there have been many times witrgh wonderful connections and interactions it would have to be with thsi particular dolphin.

Mantas, 7 of them on one dive. They were all around me. I just stayed in one place and watched them, it was a though they were dancing for me. It was beautiful

Shark.

Mantas.  Especially enveloped in ones wings as she passed me.

Octopus.

Turtles - where they are protected and are not afraid

A surprise nose-to-nose with a jewfish bigger than me! Oh my!

Free-diving in a bait ball driven by tarpon - almost as big as me!

Reefs and marine life in Cozumel. Eagle Rays are the most beautiful and graceful animals in the sea.

When I grew up in the movies they had giant clams closings and locking on peoples leg. When I dove off the coast of Australia i saw the giant clams, they were so pretty and colorful. They closed so slowly that they would never catch someone's leg. Too cool

For me it was the wreck of the USS Monitor. 230 feet deep on air! Strong current, plenty of sharks. We were all narced. Very exciting but a bit dangerous too. That was with Jacques Cousteau in 1979.
