What are the best tips for using a GoPro diving? Do you use or recommend a red filter?

Be sure it has a lanyard and floats incase you accidently let go of it. We have an upside down video of its assent to the surface from 80 ft.

I think the biggest thing that I have learned is to understand it's limitations. Go pros are awesome cameras but as you go deeper they really need assistance to create great videos. One of the things that I found helpful is a set up from flip I have a hero 4  and use a flip for attachment. The attachment has a magnifier as well as different lenses for depths. As you go deeper different colors in the spectrum fade out. These lenses along with a good light kit to get the color you're looking for with your movies

always have it attached to you somehow, via landyard or something.

As for filters, it depends on the type of water you will dive. if the water is very blue/cyan then take a red filter, if the water is more of a green, take a magenta filter. it does help but it isn't 'perfect'. If you have a good editing software, you can usually do a decent job of color correcting even if you didn't use a filter to help.

also, pack extra batteries. i usually have a dead batter by the end of the first dive, and need to switch it out before the next dive.
