How can we enable more kids to get involved in diving to get them to care more for the oceans?

The local dive shop where I live (Lafayette, La) offers summer camps for kids locally and away.  These camps teach kids about reefs, and other sea life.  They also allow the kids to dive in the pool.  It seems to be a nice way to introduce kids to the wonderful world of scuba diving.

To me when I was a kid, it was about exposure. My parents got me swim lessons, we went to the beach for vacation and I joined a swim club. I can’t say that it was a direct correlation, but that got me started. My parents were both lovers of the ocean, and even before it was cool to pick up litter on the shore, we did it. Watching Jacques Cousteau was the thrill of my week.

Get them involved in some PADI programs such as Seal Team and Bubble Makers for kids as young as 8. Discover Scuba for kids 10 and older. Start them in PADI's project Aware for information about the planet we get to explore. Project Aware is great for school age kids that will also help with their general science education. Something else we can do that is very important, Be a good example by Recycling and teaching them how to recycle. Make it a habit to tell your waiter you don't need a straw for example. If we dont take care of our Oceans future generations will not be able to enjoy our underwater world.

They can join my organization, futurefrogmen.org

We are focused on high school age and up but will get to middle school and younger once we get our feet wet.

Students write blogs about the ocean and more... We participate in events and will be doing much more. Everyone is welcome as are all skills, e.g. writing (blogs, reporting, creative, poetry, etc.), photography, videography, drawing/painting, social media skills, event planning skills, PR, public policy, research, etc.
