The largest fish that I ever caught was a 45 inch bull redfish in the surf of the Texas coast. It was my first night of surf fishing using mullet caught In a cast net we swim out to the third sandbar through our lines and waited after an hour the pole dipped over and for 45 minutes this fish dragging me across the sand and into the water before I finally called it in. It was the best fishing moment of my life.

It was a 130 lb. black marlin in Cabo San Lucas.  Took 1 hr.20 min to land. Drug us all over the point.  The fish hung off the sides of the boat as it was longer than the boat was wide!

Fishing off of Kauai, we hooked a blue marlin. I fought it for a half hour before it threw the hook. Another boat hooked and boated a big blue in the same area shortly after ours. No way to prove it was the same fish, although our captain felt certain that it was. It weighed in at 1091 pounds. That old fisherman's tale...the one that got away.

Blue shark it was off the breakwater and quite the fight. I have also regretfully hooked rays which are serious fighters and very strong. Pelicans are a problem too if they steal your bait before it drops.

I caught a 50 lb striped bass on a 12 wt fly rod a few years ago. Fought it for 25 minutes and when I got it to the boat the brand new rod broke into pieces. To Temple Forks credit they sent me a new one immediately.

The 90 inch bluefin tuna I released off Prince Edward Island. The fish had some incredible runs ripping through up to 40 lbs of drag. With steady drag pressure and excellent boat handling, I had the fish bostside in 30 minutes.

The largest fish I caught was a 52 inch, 44 pound sturgeon out of the Willamette river in Portland, Oregon.  The fish tap the bait on the bottom of the river and I had to be patient before setting the hook.  Once it was set, the sturgeon fought to stay on the bottom.  It would come up a little, shake, and go back down. It was great fishing that day.  Three of us caught 40 fish, 6 were legal keepers, between 42 inch and 60 inches long.

I caught an 800 pound , 11 ft Tiger shark out of the Sailfish Marina on Singer Island. That was before I realized how endangered sharks were. I still have bad feelings about it.
