How rough is too rough to fish?

well it depends. are you on a boat or on the shore? if you are on a boat, it will depend on your tolerance to the waves (sea sickness) and your water crafts limits... so, if it is a small boat, then you probably don't want to be out during a small craft advisory. If you are on the shore... then really it is worth a try. Depending on your bait you may get lucky still. For example if you are fishing with something like a 'cajun thunder' bobber that makes a lot of noise to attract fish in the wavy conditions, maybe you will get lucky, but, it all depends on if there are fish were you are fishing and if they are hungry enough to go for what you throw out there.

We went on charter one time in 10ft seas.  Captain normally wouldn't have gone out but he had cancelled twice before and we were regular customers who came down annually from about 4 hours away.  Against his better judgement he decided to take us out. We hadn't pushed him at all, I think he just didn't want to cancel on use.  We were on 50ft boat and we were one of two boats from the fleet that went out that day.  It was very rough and several waves broke over the boat either from front of back.  One hit the front so hard the captain was afraid he'd broken the front fiberglass of cabin. When you were reeling in a fish from back of boat, the bow would rise and you would be looking up at wall of water that looked it was going to break right on top of you. Fortunately the stern usually rose and before the wave broke over the back.  We only saw one other boat and made fun of how it looked a cork bobbing up and down and how glad we were we weren't on that one.  When we got back to the dock we saw that boat was bigger than one we were one.  I got seasick as did a couple of others.  We all felt like we had been in car wreck when we got back to the dock.  On the plus side we caught over 300lbs of Wahoo.  On the minus side, we never went out again.  Decided it wasn't worth the expense,

I signed up for a make-up trip in NC. The trip  consisted of me and five men that I did not know. They were not very happy to have a woman on the boat, they wouldn't even talk to me. The water was the roughest I ever been in, you had to crawl on the deck of the boat to move. Four out of the 5 men were seasick, I was not. No one caught a fish except me, I caught a 32lb Wahoo. Those men were not happy!! Guess that fishing trip was too rough for them.
