This is an area where I see a lot of air leaks and heavy corrosion.

I replace the o rings every year. But I teach, and am in the pool every week. Chlorine is more corrosive than saltwater.

Good for you, and I hope you teach your student how to take care of their equipment too. Good job.

Question for you Cvet (repair tech right?) does this get checked automatically on reg annual service, and is it just a visual check? Seems this would be part of the reg service -whats an added o-ring cost? my.02 and can't assume all would do it.

Good question, it sort of up to the dive shop. Some make it part of the annual service. Others only do it when you find a leak. For the most part cleaning the console is time consuming., and some people don't want to pay for it.

I do at least two dive trips annually. Upon returning home I bring my regulators, console( SPG, compass, depth gauge) in for service. All rings, seals and parts are checked and properly cleaned.
