What is the best set up for shore or beach fishing?

Similar to an earlier question:  I would get a 7' graphite rod that allows you to throw lures that cover different depths of the water colum, top, middle and bottom.  Some bait hook or a stability rig to catch live bait and a live bait hook to rig any live bait you catch.  Graphite rods with fast action are light and allow you to pitch lures without tiring.  Get a 3' pvc pipe 2" in diameter and cut one end on an angle to sink in the sand and hold your rod should you leave your live bait out.  Saves having to hold it for hours.

I like to use two rods, one 7ft for fishing close to shore in the wash and an 11ft for casting farther out.  This way I can target different species and have better shot.  I use the Sea Striker "Surf Pal" sand spikes for rod holders.  I like these because they have a small cutting place and a slot to hold bait knife.  Additionally, they have little storage area that is perfect for bait or for holding your favorite beverage while you reel in a fish.  If I am walking to my site, I also like a backpack beach chair with pockets to store tackle etc.  Lastly, I carry softside cooler.  Be sure to take sunscreen and bug spray.  Those biting flies are nasty.
